BEHIND THE NAME
The name "Yu" (meaning Jade) has a special connection to me, as it is part of the name I was given at birth, and now my legal middle name. My name was 玉粲 (Yùcàn, meaning "bright jade") before I was adopted, brought to America, and renamed as a baby. I wanted to pay homage to my heritage through my brand.
Meant to be play-on words, Lei is taken from 累 (lèi, meaning "tired") and Yu is from my name previously mentioned. Together, "累玉" (literally translating to "tired jade") may sound similar to the Chinese word for "thunderstorm", which is "雷雨" (léiyǔ).
With a fun twist of humor and a nod to my roots, the name "Leiyu" stuck, thus creating a dynamic, double-sided brand that represents me as a designer and my passion behind everything I do.
