SINCLAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2026 PORTFOLIO SHOW WEBSITE

FEBRUARY 2026-MAY 2026

SYNOPSIS

For one of my capstones, I was recruited onto Sinclair's portfolio show team. Every year, graduating students of the Sinclair design department partake in a portfolio show. The theme for each portfolio show is curated by a student team, voted upon by design staff, and selected to represent that year's graduating class. "DRAFT" is the theme for 2026, dedicated to the process work of design.

THE PROBLEM

Given that I was added to the team after a theme for the portfolio show had been chosen, my knowledge of what was needed was minimal. At the time, there were only a few basic assets and no clear content for a website other than the graduates. The website itself had been made as assets were made, which proved challenging as it changed website layout and content.

MY ROLE

Of the six students on the team, my role was design a website to showcase DRAFT and the design department graduating students. This included optimizing the existing color palette, image and video optimization, and translating the print assets of DRAFT for the web.

THE BEGINNING

In the beginning stages, my focus was on:

  • Optimizing the color palette for the web

  • Sketching a website layout

  • Optimizing graphics for web usage

HURDLES & SOLUTIONS

The biggest hurdle with this project was learning a new website building platform. Previously, I was only familiar with basic template-based website builders, or website builders that would limit content available. Framer showed potential for unique designs that broke the mold of standard templates, hence my choice in using it. The learning advantage I did have with Framer, however, was my familiarity with Figma and Google search engine. In order to navigate this new platform, a lot of research and self-learning was required along the way. If there was something I didn't know how to do and couldn't figure out on my own, off to Google I went.

THE PROCESS

Given I was added to the team after the theme was established, most of the assets were already prepared. In the beginning stages, I color checked the palette I was given before sending it back to the team with minor edits for web accessibility. From there, it was full steam ahead with sketching the website layout and building. With this project, I familiarized myself with Framer and utilizing it as a web building platform. After I sketched the website layout, I sent it to my team for feedback. Once the OK was received, I jumped into Framer with both feet and began building the basic structure of the website.

Since we didn't have all of the assets ready, the website was built with a basic skeleton structure and components until photos, videos, and animations could be implemented. The process of gathering assets took the entirety of the project duration, up until the very last day assets were still being added and refined. Throughout, I consulted my team for feedback and adhered to the theme and brand that had already been set. By the end, a fully functioning website promoting Sinclair's 2026 portfolio show was complete.
